Ultra-low-power sub-1GHz RF transceiver for efficient data uploads

The high-performance, ultra-low power S2-LP RF transceiver is specifically designed to connect networked devices as well as long-range radio links in the sub-1 GHz band directly to the cloud without a local gateway and extending battery lifetime up to 10 years. Its RF link budget is higher than 140 dB for long communication ranges and meets worldwide regulatory requirements including Europe, Japan, China and the USA.

 

Single-chip balun for ST’s sub-1GHz radio S2-LP

The 3.26 mm² BALF-SPI2-01D3 matched balun for ST’s S2-LP 868-927MHz low-power radio transceiver integrates all the impedance-matching and filtering components needed to connect an antenna to the S2-LP radio. It replaces a network of 16 discrete capacitors and inductors, reducing the PCB footprint by more than 96%. Designed for size- and cost-conscious end products, it significantly helps reduce RF complexity.

When deploying sensor-filled IoT networks, the low-power 6LoWPAN sub-1GHz technology is perfect to meet cost- and power-constrained budgets. ST makes it easy to build a 6LoWPAN-to-Ethernet bridge and access data from the cloud using an STM32 ODE Firmware function pack (FP-NET-6LPETH1), an STM32F4 Nucleo board (NUCLEO-F429ZI) and a sub-1GHz RF expansion board (X-NUCLEO-IDS01A4 for 868 MHz operation or X-NUCLEO-IDS01A5 for 915 MHz).

 

New battery-charger IC targets wearables and handhelds

The STBC03 battery-charger management chip improves integration without compromising performance and power consumption. It combines a linear battery charger, a 150 mA LDO, two SPDT switches for power and signal routing and a protection circuit module for the battery. The STBC03 offers the perfect solution for wearable and IoT markets, reducing the application cost, footprint and design time.
